Italian Nights

What you are looking at is the Pale di San Martino group with some mountain lakes in the foreground near Baita Segantini (2200m) at night. I've spend half the night there shooting and looking at stars in this cloudless night. Except one lonely fox I was there on my own with the mountains, stars - and mosquitos.

You know because it hurts
You know because it hurts.
Hey there! Today I want to share another of Guy Tals fantastic articles:
[...] In the hurried, multi-tasking, attention-deficient world we created for ourselves, merely experiencing anything in pure form may require some discipline. What so many ancient cultures knew, we have lost: the importance of being able to focus the mind onto a single thread, prioritizing attention to allow those deeper voices, often lost in the buzz, their proper slice of uninterrupted contemplation. The result: a loss of art, and a rise of “modern” art, devoid of emotion and message — a puzzle for the mind with no right solution; a distraction valued in terms of entertainment and hard currency, rather than enlightenment and beauty. In the Blink of a Lifetime
Found that interesting journal entry on Guy Tals Blog.
Check it out by clicking here.
"Somewhere in Colorado, a local radio announcer spoke longingly of his “weekend getaway” in the mountains. In this land of opportunity, why would anyone choose a life they need to get away from? Why do so many spend their lives in fear of living; constantly seeking to silence and distract themselves from the mournful calling of unfulfilled dreams? So many work to satisfy others, to mimic others, to become others; willingly sacrificing the majority of their own precious time on this magical Earth in what Thoreau so perfectly termed “a life of quiet desperation”.

Pala Reflection

Baita Segantini (2200m) and the Pale di San Martino group, near San Martino di Castrozza.
I hiked up there from 1400m on four out of eight evenings I have spent in the Dolomites, Italy. Three of them completely cloudless but on the fourth hike and my last day of the whole trip I finally got my chance.

Baltic Sea - Dolomites
Recently I returned from a three weeks photo trip spanning from the Baltic Sea, Germany in the north south to the Dolomites in Italy.
I drove about 3500km - partway on extreme alpine roads in the Alps. Hiked up to about 2700m above sea level; saw awesome landscapes and had a nice time with some interesting weather and lighting conditions. I'm really looking forward to select and process some of the over 1200 photos I've shot.

Phototour Mallorca Video
During our photo trip to Mallorca in march 2011 we tried to document some of our experiences on video for the first time.
This is kind of a little documentary video of our photo tour.
Best watched in Full-HD resolution version here.
