sunset, mountains, dolomites, autumn, fall, foliage, rugged, alps, italy, 2018In mid-October I revisited the rugged Dolomites in the Italian Alps to go on some kind of thoughtful and peaceful light-hunt and to enjoy the eye-wateringly spectacular views from the top of some famous mountain pass roads and hiking trails while car-camping and hiking my way through the mountains of South-Tyrol. I was there a couple of times before, one visit during summer and one during autumn. This time I wanted to focus on some places where I wasn't before, enjoy the larch foliage, the pleasant low and refreshing temperatures after the very hot and dry summer here in Eur ... ocean, coast, cliffs, beach, summer, golden hour, kos, greece, 2018In the end of august / beginning of september we decided to spent some days just relaxing in a nice beach resort on Kos island in Greece. After countless years of individual traveling I once again booked a prepackaged tour including flights, transfer and hotel - and I have to admit - it was a really enjoyable and relaxing holdiday and not a dedicated (and sometimes exhausting) photo tour like my road-trips through Scandinavia, Scotland, Iceland, Norway or Germany for instance. But of course I couldn't resist to take my large Nikon D810 camera + lenses with me, but to my own surprise I ... Continue reading →

golden hour, mountains, light, sunset, alps, lake, bavaria, drone, eibsee, reflection, island, germany, 2018In early July I had a week off from work and decided relatively spontaneously to do a little bavarian lakes photo tour in the german Alps. I wanted to revisit some places I last visited about 10 years ago, scout some new locations and primarily just enjoy nature and relax but also do some decent mountain hikes which I wanted to do for quite a few years now, like the so called "Höllentalklamm" (devils deep), a very impressive, narrow, rugged and wild gorge near the Zugspitze (Germany's highest mountain, 2962m). This time I had no particular photos in my mind which ... Continue reading →

sunrise, mountains, valley, forest, saxon switzerland, sun, sunstar, germany, 2018Last week I spontaneously decided to give a long anticipated photo another chance to be finally realized. There is only a time window of a about a month per year to create this photo where the sun is at the right desired position during sunrise, clear horizons provided. Only between the end of May and mid-June the suns position at sunrise would be there directly behind the rugged peak of the Heringstein summit which results in a nicely composed and interesting image, at least in my humble opinion. As usual I've planned this trip with various apps, maps and tools like Photographers Ephemeris&n ... Continue reading →

sunset, sun, summer, mountains, forest, view, rugged, saxon switzerland, germany, 2016Last weekend, after a period of very unstable weather with lots of thunderstorms and heavy rain here in Germany, on Friday, the forecast for the next two days looked stable and promising enough for me to go on my mountain summit bivouac in Saxon Switzerland National Park. I planned this trip around a possible sunrise shooting at a peak called Heringstein, where I wasn't before. I wanted to explore the area and scout possible new locations for upcoming trips into the region. Between early June and mid-July the suns position at sunrise would be exactly between two peaks you see from Heringstein ... Continue reading →

lake, reflection, autumn, fall, trees, mountains, alpes, dolomites, italy, 2015, latestThis year we have visited and explored the Italian Dolomites during the autumn season in October. In the beginning of the year we originally planed to go to the famous Aletsch Glacier and the Matterhorn region around the village Zermatt in Switzerland but after a little online research in Google Maps, Earth and The Photographer's Ephemeris for possible photo opportunities, locations, sights and things to do there (beside hiking and photographing) and how to actually get there we both decided to look for an alternative and postpone the trip to an early summer season when the wild flowers ... greetings, from, river, stream, national park, jungle, valley, forest, czech republic, 2015Last weekend, after literally months of incredibly hot weather here in Germany this year, I once again left the comfort zone of my regular life with our cozy appartment, the large comfortable bed, my digital darkroom / computer & gaming room with new inspirational and entertaining digital adventures like Witcher III waiting for me to be consumed as well as the strong, hot and tasty coffee in the morning. All in exchange for another real experience and to really feel alive and enjoy being out in nature in the central German uplands of Saxon-Switzerland National Park as well as the fore ... mountain, snow, roadshot, street, norway, 2015At the beginning of the year we thought about possible travels for this summer. The most important questions were first and foremost where to go and secondly what type of travel do we actually want to do. After some consideration and research we decided to do a roadtrip through Fjord Norway and travel and sleep in a camping van for the first time. Due to some social obligations in June and July the only possible timeframe for the trip was May, which means we would visit Norway before the main season when most of the campsites, streets and trails are literally full with people, tents and camping ... sunset, valley, summer, saxon switzerland, sunstar, forest, mountain, view, germany"The fact, that a technically incorrect photograph (in the conventional sense) can be emotionally more effective than a technically flawless image, will be shocking to those, who are naive enough to believe that technical perfection constitutes the true value of a photograph. A technically perfect photograph can be the world’s most boring picture." Andreas Feininger Introduction What makes an interesting, good or even great landscape photo is highly individual and always depends on your own interests, background and desired style of photography (same applies to the ... sunset, car, camping, quiraing, road, scotland, 2014In June I was planning a several week trip through Scotland for the following month, which means I would be on tour at the same time when Le Tour is taking place. So I would not only miss the Soccer World Cup but above all my beloved Tour de France. You do what you can for photography, huh! In the screenshot (image below) you can see the planned route. This rough route stretches for about 2200 kilometers. With all the sightseeing, scouting and the distance Leipzig-Amsterdam-Leipzig the length of the trip was about 4500 kilometers. A lot of planning and preparation took place ... Continue reading →
